Four-Day Assistance at Sports Events for People with Physical and Visual Impairments – Winter Semester 2026

The course Assistance for People with Physical and Visual Impairments at Winter Sports Events focuses on developing the professional knowledge and practical skills required to support people with disabilities in winter sports activities.

Students will become familiar with the main types of physical and visual impairments, their functional consequences, and the specific needs of athletes with disabilities. They will acquire appropriate assistance techniques for alpine and cross-country skiing, learn essential safety principles, practise effective communication, and become familiar with adapted sports equipment and its practical use.

The course consists of theoretical instruction at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, Charles University, and practical training conducted in real-life conditions during a residential winter course. Its aim is to develop students’ professional, technical, and communication competencies, as well as their empathy, independence, responsibility, and ability to cooperate with people with different types of disabilities, including situations outside their own comfort zone.
